of Sybaris
The Archaeological Park of Sibari is located in Cassano allo Ionio and is the site of one of the richest and most important Greek cities of Magna Graecia. The archaeological finds affirm that this territory has been frequented by man in the Bronze Age and in Iron Age by Indo-European populations. The name of the plain derives from Sybaris, a famous city of Magna Graecia that soon became an important commercial center with refined costumes. Thanks to the initiative of Umberto Zanotti Bianco, in 1932, the site of the ancient Sybaris was brought to light and easily visited.
